Organic Gardening and Organic Food

Today the population in the USA is obese and unhealthy. The food which contain the highest fat content are frequently the cheapest to purchase. So to save money we purchase the high fat foods. Then on top of that, our fat inducing food is tainted with pesticides, antibiotics, hormones and many times deadly bacteria. Our choices to purchase fresh produce, vegetables and other groceries are limited to local grocery stores, fast food outlets and restaurants. The grocery stores and restaurants don’t tell you where your food comes from or how your food was grown and what pesticides and fertilizers were used to grow your food. Your tomatoes may be from Chile, those grapes may be from Argentina or the beef came from Mexico. Even coming from the United States is no guarantee that salmonella, e coli, mad cow hasn’t infected them.

What is our solution? The best solution is safe, nutritious and still cheap foods grown your own in your own garden. In today’s fast paced life most of us don’t have the time or the energy, and the available land and green thumb to plant our own garden;to be able to harvest your own delicious, nutritious and safe food for your family. As late as 50 years ago, gardening was one of the most important projects for most families. Growing up in central Mississippi on a small farm, I know it was for my family. The garden provided low cost food and nutrition and we always knew where our food came from. We had chickens and eggs, cows with fresh milk and butter and pigs and pork we raised ourselves. Therefore we knew how safe it was for our family to eat. Today, with our busy schedules, very few families can afford the luxury of tending their very own garden.
